SuperBits: Cinismo e maturità

Greg Rucka aveva un blog (e non è chissà che gran cosa, direte voi). In un lungo post (versione archiviata: il link originale lo tengo per testimonianza) a un certo punto scrive qualcosa che secondo me vale la pena tenere a mente, indipendentemente dal fatto di essere amanti del genere supereroistico o meno:

È il momento delle cose fastidiose: per quelli là fuori che disprezzano eroi come Superman, Wonder Woman e Capitan America, quelle icone che ancora, nella loro essenza, rappresentano il sacrificio disinteressato verso un bene superiore, e che giustificano il loro disprezzo dicendo, oh, è così irrealistico, nessuno sarebbe mai così nobile… crescete. Seriamente. Il cinismo non è maturità, non confondete l'uno con l'altra. Se davvero non riuscite ad accettare una storia in cui qualcuno fa la cosa giusta perché è la cosa giusta da fare, questo dice molto di più su chi siete voi che su questi personaggi.⁽¹⁾

(1) Pet peeve time: for the contingent out there who sneer at heroes like Superman and Wonder Woman and Captain America, those icons who still, at their core, represent selfless sacrifice for the greater good, and who justify their contempt by saying, oh, it’s so unrealistic, no one would ever be so noble… grow up. Seriously. Cynicism is not maturity, do not mistake the one for the other. If you truly cannot accept a story where someone does the right thing because it’s the right thing to do, that says far more about who you are than these characters.
